Let’s Talk Drinks
Now I’m a beer guy. Period. There’s the odd occasion I’ll have a shot with some buddies at the bar when we’re celebrating something or I’ll have a shooter if they’re something different, but typically I’m a beer guy. I can drink beer all day long and never get sick, hungover or completely inebriated.
That’s not to say that my wife or any of her girl friends enjoy beer the way I do. In fact, they prefer the frozen drinks leading up to meal time, and then maybe another one after dinner to relax with by the pool or on the deck. So, I’ve become quite adept at making frozen cocktails that everyone enjoys.
In a pinch, I stick with the ol’ tried and true Daquiris and Margaritas, using the store bought mixers, and adding my own liquor. But when I have time to play, I like to get into the more exotic and labor intensive drinks. Why? It’s certainly not because I like them, I can’t do liquor in any quantity at all. I do it because it makes other people happy. And that’s the whole point of partying isn’t it?
So, with that I’d like to start by sharing one of my favorite frozen concotions with you right now, and I’d love to see what some of you are blending up for those hot summer days when you just GOTTA have a chilly libation.
Blue Hawaiian
1 oz Malibu Rum or Captain Morgan Parrot Bay
1/2 oz Blue Curacao Liqueur
1/2 oz Pineapple Juice
Ice
Blend till thick and smooth. Serve in a Tiki Glass with an orange wedge garnish.
That one’s kinda simple, I’ll admit, but it’s always a hit with the ladies. I’ll get into more advanced drinks next.
Frozen Euphoria
1 oz Crown Royal
1 oz Peach Schnapps
1 oz Triple Sec
1 oz Vodka
Ice
Again, blend until thick and smooth. Garnish with a lemon wedge and serve in margarita glass with sugar on the rim.
These are just two of the most popular concoctions I’m asked to make at our cookouts. They’re by no means the end all to beat all, but I wanted to share these in hopes of you sharing yours. Let’s get our drink on!
Beverage of choice?
First and foremost, I am NOT a beer snob. I drink Miller Lite, Miller Genuine Draft and the occasional Bud Select. I’ve never been a huge fan of craft brew, micro-brew or any other brew for that matter.
It’s not that I have anything against Samuel Adams, for example, but I just don’t like to have to think about the flavors I’m tasting when chugging down a cold one.
And for that matter, some people don’t like beer at all. They prefer wine, whisky, etc. And that’s great too. I’m all for hearing about your fave beverages on cookout day!
But I’d like to hear what you have to say on the subject. Be nice, you may hate Miller beer, but you don’t have to slam it. Just tell us why you like what YOU like. Maybe we can even work up a beer review section?
